The Nautical Institute BC Branch held their Annual General Meeting at the Vancouver Maritime Museum on May 14, 2016. Highlights included the election of a new board, including new Chair Nigel Greenwood. Captain James Steele was presented with his Fellowship certification by Duke Snider, Vice President, Nautical Institute HQ, and Joachim Ruether conducted the Annual General Meeting of the Nautical Professional Education Society of Canada which included a presentation to President Terry Stuart of the SuperCargo Association for their generous support of the Society as well as the presentation of honourary memberships to Andrew Korek, Roddy Weir, David Whitaker, Bob Kitching and Jane McIvor. The AGM was followed by guest speakers Mary Tasi and Wade Baker, authors of The Hidden Journals, an account of Lieutenant Joseph Baker, a young officer and mapmaker on Captain George Vancouver's ship, HMS Discovery. Wade Baker is a descendant of the Lieutenant and he, along with Mary, described the efforts taken to confirm the lineage.
