Colleagues, peers and friends were on hand to celebrate the career of Ken Harford and wish him well as he began his retirement. Hosted at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, the newly retired Managing Director of Robert Allan Ltd. was visibly touched by a tribute from Robert Allan who noted that "every boat we've built in the last 25 years has benefited from Ken's abilities." Rob then presented Ken with an original 1979 drawing by artist Alistair Bell, depicting a mix of early generation Cates wooden tugs and Robert Allan Ltd. twin-screw steel "pre-Z-Drive" tugs. In thanking attendees, Ken recognized a number of colleagues who had been an integral part of his career, including Carol Nilson, Steve Weir, Dave Simpson, Alan Novotny and Randy Shore to name just a few. "It has been a joy to come to work," he said in thanking staff. Ken kept his highest praise for Rob, with whom it had been a "privilege," and for his family, wife Diane, son Alex, daughter-in-law Tracey, and grandsons Bree and Mark. Shortly following Ken's retirement, he was awarded the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering's Medal of Excellence for 2016.
