Parker retires from Mission to Seafarers...

Industry leaders gathered in late January to mark the retirement of Reverend Nick Parker from the Mission to Seafarers. After nine years as the chaplain at the Mission, Nick will be spending some of his time in retirement in ministry service in Squamish. In addition to honours from Captain Gordon Houston, current chair of the Mission's board, guests also heard from past chair Bert Bjorndal, Peter Swanson who represented the International Sailors Society Canada, Frans Tjallingii (Saam Smit Towage Canada), the Rt. Rev. Melissa M. Skelton, Anglican Archdiocese of New Westminster, and Andrew Easton, DP World. Each spoke highly of Nick's contribution to helping seafarers visiting Vancouver and of his deep connection to the local shipping industry. Thanks to photographer Dave Roels for capturing the evening (www.daveroels.com).
